Aldo is a brand created in Montreal by Aldo Bensadoun in the 1970s. It is a major player in the shoe industry worldwide, and also markets accessories such as handbags, jewellery and hats. The brand's positioning is similar to H&M, seeking to keep up with fashion trends at affordable prices.
Back in 2013, Aldo decided to create a team of sustainability experts to measure its carbon footprint. In 2018, the brand had reduced its operation’s emissions by 46%. One year later, Aldo launched its first sustainable collection made from recycled plastic bottle yarn and lake algae.
Most recently, Aldo stopped using single-use plastic shopping bags and is now phasing out paper too. Instead, the brand gives out transportable shoeboxes that are made from 80% post-consumer recycled materials and are completely recyclable.
